| Project Description
The new school has a total floor area of 72,700+ square foot with a footprint of about 49,065+ square feet and two-story classrooms. A 180-foot driveway at the front of the school on North Street accommodates up to four buses. A 31-space parking lot is located on the southwest corner of the site for staff parking. On-street parking on both sides of North Street and along the Eastern Promenade accommodates an additional 100 vehicles. On-street parking allows additional staff parking as well as student drop-offs, pickups and school visitor spaces. The project includes brick sidewalks on both sides of North Street and along the Eastern Promenade frontage. Interior walkways allow for pedestrian crossing and access through the site.

The school offers a choice of play space from a large athletic field area, a soft playground area, and several naturalized “adventure” play areas. The athletic field area will also be used for adult softball when school is not in session. The school has three wings which fan in an easterly direction from the building core providing extensive natural lighting for the classrooms. Between the three classroom wings are two open spaces which will be fenced and afford the opportunity for garden spaces and educational site programs.
The new LEEDS Certified design addressed concerns identified by the educational staff and community. The design team has used an integrated design approach utilizing energy modeling and LEED program criteria to evaluate various high performance options. Early in the planning, the team organized and led a series of charrettes to educate the community about high performance design principles and assure that community needs are addressed in the project program.
