DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has established an excellent working relationship with various State and Federal agencies: the Maine and Connecticut Departments of Environmental Protection (MeDEP and CTDEP), the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and Department of Transportation, the Soil and Water Conservation District (SCS), the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. received two awards from the Cumberland County SCS: the first was for the firm's work in phosphorus pollution control, and the second for environmental planning. The firm has been recognized by the MeDEP as one of the most environmentally responsible design firms working in the State.

DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has designed over 80 commercial shopping centers in Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and New York. The firm has been involved with most of these projects from the inception, including site selection as well as all permitting services, and is used by several major retailers as a leader in innovative design for water quality issues. Water Quality / Non-Point Runoff Control :
DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has quantitative models to assess the effect of developments on receiving water bodies. In addition, the firm has experience in combined sewer overflow analysis and its effect on receiving waters. The firm has designed numerous non-point control systems including wet retention ponds, artificial wetlands, infiltration systems, and vegetative buffers.
DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has performed water quality assessments in several lake watersheds in accordance with the MeDEP Lakes Division. These projects include residential subdivisions with water quality retention basins and vegetated buffers; State roadway improvements projects, specifically the design and construction of a wetpond to treat the runoff from a portion of the Route 302 widening by the Maine Department of Transportation within the Highland Lake watershed in Bridgton, Maine; and numerous commercial projects that included the design and construction of wet marsh/created wetland systems, wetpond retention facilities and full infiltration basins.
Environmental Remediation : DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has provided environmental remediation services for commercial development sites in Skowhegan, Rockland, and Gorham, Maine; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Stratford and Wallingford, Connecticut. These projects included environmental assessments to determine the types and extent of hazardous materials within the site. Special removal and waste disposal requirements were completed for all sites. The firm’s largest project involved designs for the redevelopment of the Raybestos Site in Stratford, Connecticut. The project included a 105 million dollar environmental cleanup and a 30 million-dollar redevelopment under the recent Brownfield Amendment of Congress. The project started in 1995 and was completed in 2002.
Wastewater Treatment and Conveyance :
The firm’s largest project of this type is in Saco, Maine and includes four cast-in-place pump stations, eight miles of sewer and force main, and an outfall to the Saco River estuary. The firm’s work in smaller system designs ranges in size from 1,500-foot sewer extensions to partial system separations. These include Combined Sewer Overflow projects in Saco and Portland. The Saco CSO Master Plan was nominated by the regional EPA for a national award.
Water System Analysis and Upgrade :
In addition to small onsite water system design, DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has analyzed approximately 50 systems in various locations along the eastern seaboard for fire protection in conjunction with planned developments. Typically, these analyses require system upgrades involving new transmission lines and system interconnections, but occasionally a booster pump station or standpipe is also needed. As an example, a project in Ellsworth, Maine included a new water booster station and approximately one mile of 12" water line to serve a project on Route 3.

Airport Design :
DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has provided design services for the Portland Jetport since the Company’s inception in 1986. The approximately 50 million dollars in system improvements designed at the Jetport include a 400’ extension to the main runway, runway rehabilitation, widening several taxiways, a 3-mile perimeter access road, new access roads to the airport and a variety of apron and taxiway rehabilitation projects that included lighting and guidance signs.
Residential Developments :
DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has designed many residential developments ranging in size from small several-unit developments to a 90-lot subdivision with 12,000 feet of roadway in Naples, Maine.
Speciality Projects :
DeLuca-Hoffman Associates, Inc. has worked on specialty projects ranging from oil tank farm rehabilitation to marine facilities. These include work at Global Petroleum’s Fore River Terminal in South Portland, work at the Northeast Petroleum tank farms in Sandwich, MA and Portsmouth, NH; the Camp Ellis Fish Pier in Saco, Maine; the natural gas fired Westbrook Energy Center, and Maine Life Care’s Piper Shores project in Scarborough. Our office also worked with the City of Saco in the planning, design and construction administration of the new AMTRAK passenger rail platform located on Saco Island.
